February 2015

Hello all. It's been a busy couple of months. My mom (age 98) had a health scare with her heart early in December. After some time in the hospital and then rehab, she has now found a permanent home in a subaccute care center about 45 minutes away from me. On the down side, the hour and a half round trip is a bit daunting on a daily basis. The upside is that she is adjusting quickly, and is being well treated by the staff there. She tells me, "They take good care of me, and I feel safe." What more could I ask for?

Now the hard work begins. We need to disassemble her apartment. How does one go about disposing of nearly 100 years of a person's accumulation of things they've valued. It's very sad to have to do this, and they're not even my possessions. She is so organized. Everything has a place...all drawers are neat and tidy. Sadly, I didn't inherit that gene from her, nor was I blessed with her naturally wavy hair, something I have never failed to point out to her!

Thanks to those of you, too numerous to list, for all the well wishes. The encouragement I have received here online has been amazing. So many of you have taken the time to write and offer your positive thoughts and prayers. It has been overwhelming to me, and each letter, note or e-mail has been very appreciated. My online friends and family are the best!
